History of Jaipur Literature Festival
The Jaipur Literature Festival is an annual literary festival. It takes place in the Indian city of Jaipur. It founded in 2006, and from 2008.
The festival directors are writers Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple and produced by Sanjoy Roy of Teamwork Arts. The year 2016 is the ninth edition of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival.
Jaipur celebrates the world largest free festival of its kind, and the Jaipur Literature Festival has defined as the greatest literary show on Earth.
The Celebrating writers from across the world, the Festival has hosted some of the best regarded and loved names ranging from Nobel Laureates.
Every January the most remarkable, sensitive, witty, and brilliant collection of authors from South Asia. From all over the world come together for five days of readings, debates, and discussions at the beautiful Palace in the Rajasthani capital.
The Diggi Palace Hotel serves as the main venue of the celebration with sessions held in the Hall of Audience and the gardens of the Diggi Palace in the city center.
Equity and democracy run through the Festival veins, providing access. For all to some of our greatest writers and thinkers with a space to dare, dream, and imagine. A powerful statement in a country where such opportunities prevail the privilege of a few.
The Man Booker Prize winners to star debuts covering all Amish Tripathi, Eleanor Catton, Hanif Kureishi, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, JM Coetzee, Mohammed Hanif, Ian McEwan, Oprah Winfrey, Orhan Pamuk, Pico Iyer, Vikram Seth, Salman Rushdie, and Wole Soyinka. And also renowned Indian language writers such as Girish Karnad, MT Vasudevan Nair, Uday Prakash, Mahasweta Devi, and UR Ananthamurthy.
For over 25 years, Teamwork Arts have taken India to the world and brought the world to India. In countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, Egypt, France, Italy, Israel, Korea, Germany, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, UK and the USA. Teamwork produces over 25 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary celebrations across more than 40 cities.

Jaipur Literature Festival celebrates a decade of shaping India conversation with a focus on ‘India at 70’.
The Jaipur Literature Festival announced on 18 October 2016. That its 10th edition will take place on 19th January – 23rd January 2017, once again at Diggi Palace Hotel in Jaipur.
JLF will welcome over 250 authors, thinkers, journalists, politicians, and popular culture icons, and expects audience numbers to exceed last year figure of 330,000.
Over the past decade, the Festival has evolved into one of the largest. And most accessible cultural events on the planet. A true champion of culture, ideas and democracy. It strives to encourage freedom of thought and expression for a dizzying range of diverse voices. Involved in intellectual discourse across India and globally. While as part of its ongoing celebration of the word, the Festival continues to assist. And also inspire those who cherish literature.
